San Jose, California – It’s the time to celebrate America’s independence. It’s party time. Add o that the fun of playing cricket. BACA community celebrates July 4th every year with a popular tournament called “July 4th Cricket Festival”. BACA was launched in 1999 with this tournament. In this tournament, all the teams in BACA are divided into various groups with each group consisting of 3-4 teams. In essence, this is a BACA all-star tournament.
In 2009, the teams were divided into three groups as BACA Green, BACA Blue and BACA Yellow. BACA Firebirds, the newly formed BACA women’s team was also pulled in this time around and were part of BACA Yellow.
In the round-robin format, BACA Yellow registered two convincing victories. BACA Blue won one game and made it to the Final. Both BACA Yellow and BACA Blue had announced strong teams for the Final. BACA Yellow won the toss and decided to bat first. Jigar Patel and young Kapil Talwalkar provided BACA Yellow a flying start. Jigar launched a brutal attack in the first over bowled by Bilal Khan hitting two sixes and two fours. They didn’t look back from then on. At the 10 over mark, BACA Yellow were 94 for 2 wickets. Jigar had gotten out scoring 64 from 33 balls. Ayan Banerjee continued the assault scoring 40 from 45 balls. 250 was on the cards. But BACA Blue pulled is back a bit with good spin attack by Meva Dhami and Ladhi Kahlon. Shafiq Khan came on to bowl later and grabbed 4 wickets. But BACA Yellow still managed to set up a respectable score of 198.
